Wow, I forgot that I started this blog.  Whoospie!!!

Anyway, I think we are going to have to push the ceremony back to mid to late April, simply because Mississippi weather is just so damn unpredictable in March.  It could be as hot as hades, or freezing.  So April it is.

I've nailed down a few details.  We are going to renew our vows in the front yard.  My parents have put up some lattice work and are making a sort of arbor.  The reception will be in the side yard or back (they have over three acres, mostly wooded, but a large yard nonetheless, so space shouldn't be a concern).  We are going to do tents, just in case it rains (again, you never know around here, what with our subtropical climate - we get a lot of rain!).  I've envisioned paper lanterns in the trees, string/Christmas tree (white) lights as well, and Mason jars.  Lots and lots of Mason jars.  Some filled with flowers and tied with raffia, some with candles, some to drink out of! (hard stuff and non-hard stuff alike).  And I've decided I want to center my bouquets around the lovely black eyed susan, which grow in abundance around here in the late spring/early summer.  I basically want wildflowers... in the bouquets, in my hair... everywhere.  I also had a cute idea about taking a clothesline and pinning up photos of Dav and me throughout the years... including our wedding day/elopement.  Very country/rustic.  I may even go barefoot :-)

But when the sun goes down, we are going to rock!  I've put together a pretty cool/eclectic playlist, I think, that includes rock/punk, blues, jazz... a little bit of everything.  I want to walk out to Picture in a Frame by Tom Waits and the song We by the punk band the Descendents is "our" song, so I know it sounds weird, but I want that to be our first dance.  I want to dance with my daddy to Midnight Lullaby by Tom Waits (lots of Tom).  I'd also like to dance with my mom and Dav's dad too... not sure about those songs.  I was thinking of ditching the gorgeous Celtic gown and switching to something I can dance in, like a cute polka dotted halter dress or something.  I also like the song In my Life by the Beatles, so it'll be in there somewhere :-)  OK, enough rambling about the music.  Here's the list:

First entry - what's going on

My husband and I eloped over nine years ago. We were both 20 and didn't have a lot of cash to throw down on a wedding, and we just wanted to be married, so we ran off to Florida. There were four other people present. Our parents missed it. I missed dancing with my daddy and wearing a white gown. We missed the party.

We've decided to renew our vows next spring. My friend Nina (http://www.wix.com/slackerelf/nina) designed me an amazing Celtic-inspired gown and shipped it to me back in 2005 (it's AMAZING and perfect for me, and best of all, no one else has it). Well, I'm finally going to get to wear it. I'm finally going to get to see my handsome husband in a suit and we'll get to exchange our personalized vows (something we weren't able to do at the courthouse in Florida where we were married). I can't wait to dance with my David and my father and mother and best friends.... I'm very excited.

We've decided for it to be a DIY-affair, outdoors at my parents' house. They have a lot of pretty blooming dogwoods in spring. We're hoping to have the ceremony near dusk and the reception outside at night. I've already compiled a playlist of tunes (my brother has even agreed to play a slowed-down version of "our" song, which is a punk song by the Descendents).

This blog will serve to provide updates on our big day (tentatively set for March 30, 2013, but may be pushed back due to weather/warmth concerns). I'll upload pics of ideas and things like that. I hope people will provide comments and suggestions. Thanks for reading!
